It’s quite clear at this point that Arda Turan is not part of
Barcelona’s
plans. With the number of midfielders already in the squad and Arda’s
underwhelming performances since joining the club, the feeling among the
board is that the former Atlético Madrid man is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.
Barça have made it clear that Arda is for sale and are
content with cutting their losses and selling him for just 20-25 million
euros after paying €36 million to sign him back in 2015. The problem is
no teams have made offers for Turan, and those who have approached
Barça are only interested in signing him on loan, including Galatasaray.
But Arda does not want to move to Turkey, and he doesn’t even want to
leave Barça right now.
In fact, according to reports in Catalonia, Arda has
asked the board to wait until January to sell him, which sounds stupid
but actually isn’t for one reason: the main transfer window
in the Chinese Super League is the January window, where they search
for players in European clubs that are not getting too much playing time
and try to sign them on cheaper deals.
Chinese clubs already approached Barça to sign Arda last year, but Luis Enrique didn’t want to sell him believing Turan could still turn his Barça career around. Luis Enrique is gone now, and Arda will definitely not turn his career around. China will most likely come back for him in January, and Arda is not opposed to a move there.
It seems like a waste of time and money to keep Turan around, but it might be worth the wait for a few more months.
